Midterms should have made it home this week.
For math, I had sent home detailed progress reports 2 weeks ago along with a half sheet advising students and parents specifically about grades and ways to bring those grades up. Below will be listed those suggestions to work on at home with your student:
* Students have the opportunity to come at 7:45am to Mrs. Haucks room for any work they need help with, quiet time to complete work, or help on any subject. (They have been told this numerous times)
Check agenda daily and make your child show you the work completed.
* Check their morning math DAILY (they have time to complete each day in class).
* As long as your student completes a day for morning math, I will check it in class and let them know the ones incorrect so they have time to correct their work/use resources to study the materials that we have already covered.
* There will not be extra credit given- please encourage your student to study daily for upcoming tests (they already know happen most Fridays in Math).
* Check this website daily and use the "WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS" tab on the right to see all assignments (even upcoming for the week).
* If you student is making below a 90 on morning math- THEIR effort is lacking. These are skills from 4th, 5th, and 6th grade (the 6th grade skills are questions they currently have notes on in THEIR notebook)- Are they studying that note book daily? 5-10 minutes?
Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help!

Remote Times and Info

* Math will be LIVE daily at 9am. Students need to be logged on before or at 9am. We will have a lesson and work during this time. Students will access this link through their google classroom page. (In the event Google LIVE is NOT working, a video lesson will be posted.

Announcement- Remote Fridays

September 25th, 2020

Parents of Remote Learners,

On Tuesday, September 22nd, the Roane County School Board voted and approved that beginning Friday, October 2, 2020, all K - 12 students will learn remotely on Friday of each week until December 18, 2020.

The board also voted and approved that beginning with the 2nd 9 weeks grading  period, parents who make a choice of in-person or remote learning must stay with the choice they have made for the full 9 week grading period.

The board voted and approved that remote students who are not completing work, signing in to attend virtual classes and meetings, and/or are failing will be required to return to in-person learning.

Students that attend in-person will receive instruction from their teachers for their Friday assignments. Assignments may be both paper/pencil and/or on Google Classroom. There will be no “new” instruction assigned on Fridays. The work students will be expected to complete on Friday’s will be practice from the week's lessons and possibly quizzes. Students can email their teachers to ask clarifying questions and can request a one-on-one Google Meet for additional support. Teachers will be in the building ready to assist on Fridays from 8:20am - 3:20pm.

Remote Learners will be expected to attend all four of their core classes virtually on Fridays. This “check in” is for clarification from the week's assignments, reteaching, assessments and for teachers to give feedback on student learning.

Fridays are not “Off” days for anyone… not the teachers, administrators, in-person or remote learners. Parents, your patience is appreciated as we work together during these unprecedented times to ensure that ALL students are receiving the Best Education possible for our students. Parents and students should always check all of your teachers’ websites weekly at

All four core teachers and Related Arts teachers’ websites should be visited weekly by parents and students. Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Special Education, P.E., Guidance, Technology, Library and Band are updated weekly with assignments, expectations and procedures on how to access all of the sites and materials utilized in the classroom.

Parents have 24/7 access to your child’s grades via ParentVue. We look forward to a continued partnership, working together with you to ensure your child receives the best education possible.

Announcement for END OF THE YEAR!

Returning Materials

Dear CMS Students/Parents of Students,

May 11th - 15th, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

May 14th, 10:00 - 2:00 and 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

At Cherokee Middle School:

No more than 6 students will be allowed in the library at a time. We must make the process swift and keep them moving. In and out.

As much as we would love to give our students hugs, we will still be practicing social distancing and will give virtual hugs and big smiles!

  • Students/parents may come on any of these dates regardless what  grade they are in.

  • Please wipe down all returning items as best as possible with disinfectant wipes.

  • Students are to return

    • Chromebooks

    • textbooks

    • borrowed books

    • library books

    • band instruments (band students - please go to and go to Mr. Tillman’s webpage to see the specifics about what to return to the band room.)

    • athletic gear

    • Any completed work you would like to return to your teacher. (place work in a grocery bag with your name and the name of the teacher it is to go to)

    • pay outstanding fees, i.e. Cafeteria Charges, Lost Textbook Fees

    • pick up or purchase yearbooks (If you pre-ordered, it will be ready for your child to pick up. If you did not pre-order, there are some for sale for $40 until sold out.)

    • If your child had any medications that were kept with the school nurse, please have your child pick up what belongs to them.

    • retrieve any personal items or clothing from the lockers.

    • Pick up a copy of the materials list for next year, Out-of-District Form, and Physical Paperwork

    • 8th grade students will receive 8th grade Certificates

Only our high school students will have a graduation, which will take place later in the summer. There will not be any honors or recognition ceremonies at CMS or any other Roane County Middle School or for any other grade levels. I realize this is disheartening to many, our students have worked very hard. Our 8th grade students will receive their 8th grade certificate, however no other awards or recognitions will take place.

  • Traffic Flow - Parents will use the car rider line to drop off students, then the parent will be directed to pull in the bus line,
(next to the front of the school) to pick up their child in front of the band/cafeteria area.

  • If a parent must come into the building, please park in the bus lane on the far side of the bus lane next to the road so that you do not block the flow of the traffic.

  • Students will enter the outside doors to the library, drop off Chromebook, library books, textbooks, borrowed books, and athletic gear, pay cafeteria/library/lost text fees if needed, and pick up or purchase a yearbook. Students will then be directed to the locker/grade level hallway to pick up personal items, exit the end of hallway doors as if going to the cafeteria, drop off their band instrument in the band room, exit the door by band room, get in the car and leave. Not every child will need or want to get personal items or return a band instrument. Those that do not have to will exit the library and return to their car in the bus lane and leave.
