Week of September 20 - 24, 2021

REMINDERS: For students who have been absent, access Study Island as follows:
 
1. Go to Clever 
2. Click on the Study Island app (palm tree)
3. You will see 4 boxes on your screen. Look at the bottom right corner where you see "Active Assignments" and
   click "HOMEWORK Analyze and Draw Inferences
*******NOTE****** If you ever do not see the assignment there, you can also go to "My Classes" on the left hand side of your screen. SCROLL down until you see Townsend ELA Core 3. CLICK "view assignments" in that box.
4. Click the blue word "Capitalization"
5. You will see 4 colored boxes. You can click "Lesson" and review capitalization rules. The go back and click on the orange "Practice" box to start the assignment.
6. Your goal is to get 70% or above which is a blue ribbon.
NOTE:  IF you score below 70%, you will have to complete the BUILDING BLOCK (noted by an arrow below the assignment) before you can go back to complete the original assignment. Always read the "Lesson" box first and take your time.
 
~MONDAY~ In Class: Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 6 (connecting moments in reading; identify emotions; inference based on evidence)
 
~TUESDAY~ In Class: Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 7 (focusing on details, evidence, dialogue & narration - making inferences)
 
~WEDNESDAY~ In Class:  Finish Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 7
                         HW: Study Island (Analyze & Draw Inferences) due next Tuesday 9/28. The expectations are the same for all Study Island practice assignments. Students should not wait until the last minute to start. This prepares them for the assessment over each skill. 
                         REVIEW for Grammar Quiz.
 
~THURSDAY~ In Class: Grammar Quiz #3; Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 8 (interpreting dialogue, narration, point of view - inference based on evidence)
                        HW: Complete reading article.
 
~FRIDAY~ In Class: Complete Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 8. If there is time, start Lesson 9.
                  HW: Study Island (Analyze & Draw Inferences) is due Tuesday, 9/28.

~MONDAY~  In Class: Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 4 (writing complex sentences)
                HW: Study Island (capitalization) due tomorrow. This was assigned last Thursday.
 
~TUESDAY~ In Class: Group Session Study Island and quiz tomorrow over capitalization; Amplify SubUnit 3, finish Lesson 4 (writing complex sentences)
 
~WEDNESDAY~ In Class: Capitalization quiz (Study Island); Begin Lesson 5 (revise writing to add evidence)
 
~THURSDAY~ In Class: Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 5 (Revising writing to add evidence)
                   HW:  Complete reading article.
 
~FRIDAY~ In Class: Check HW article; begin Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 6 (connecting moments in the reading)

WEEKLY PLANS
 
MIDTERM REPORTS GO HOME TUESDAY.
ELA HAS FOUR GRADES AT THIS POINT. WE WILL
HAVE APPROXIMATELY 10-12 GRADES TOTAL FOR
THE FIRST NINE WEEKS. IF YOU CANNOT GET INTO
PARENTVUE TO CHECK GRADES, PLEASE CALL THE

~MONDAY~ No school. Labor Day Holiday.
 
~TUESDAY~  Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 2 (identify and explain text details); sign & return Midterm reports to homeroom teacher tomorrow.
 
~WEDNESDAY~ Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 3 (using & finding text evidence; sequence) 
 
~THURSDAY~ Amplify Lesson 4, (analyze complex sentence structure and practice writing using complex sentence structure). If time, begin Lesson 5 (using evidence to support claims).
 
                   Introduce Study Island in class today.
                   HW: Complete reading article/questions "Underwater Kingdom"
 
~FRIDAY~  Reading Quiz today (comprehension; vocabulary; supporting evidence)
 
HW: Study Island (Capitalization) is due next Tuesday.  Students should not wait until the last minute to begin. This is assigned several days in advance. Students are required to obtain a blue ribbon for each Study Island assignment. It is INCOMPLETE if 70% or above (blue ribbon) is not obtained. I have explained the "building block" components to the students.

~You can see your student's reading quiz results from last Friday in Google Classroom. Just like the grammar quizzes, have your child choose the post in Google Classroom and show you the results.

                            HOMEWORK: Review for grammar quiz tomorrow. Students may take home their ELA notebook with these notes, but should have it with them in class tomorrow.
 
~THURSDAY~ Grammar Quiz #2; Amplify SubUnit 3, Lesson 2
                       HOMEWORK: Complete reading article/questions "Wildlife Trade:....

~If your child is absent, check this website for that day/week and also Google Classroom. Lessons posted in Google Classroom should be completed before they return. 
 
~We took our first grammar quiz last Friday. Students can show you their quiz results by going to the post in Google Classroom. Their score has also been posted on ParentVue.

~FRIDAY~  In Class: Complete ReadWorks quiz. Students will read a passage, answer comprehension questions about the text (main idea, text evidence, vocabulary, etc.), and complete two (2) written response questions.

Tuesday - finish Iready language test
Wednesday -  Grammar practice; complete Amplify Reading SubUnit2, Lesson 4 and 5; students will use precise details in their writing.
Thursday - Grammar practice; define elements of Plot; students will create web diagram of plot elements; complete Amplify SubUnit 2, Lesson 6; students will focus on writing using details.
                HOMEWORK: Complete reading article
Friday - Grammar practice;  Amplify SubUnit 2, Lesson 7; students will focus on precise details in writing.

~TUESDAY~ Grammar practice; complete Amplify Reading SubUnit 2, Lessons 1-3; students will define vocabulary and practice using the Amplify library.
 
~WEDNESDAY~ Grammar practice; complete Amplify Reading SubUnit2, Lesson 4 and 5; students will use precise details in their writing.
 
~THURSDAY~ Grammar practice; define elements of Plot; students will create web diagram of plot elements; complete Amplify SubUnit 2, Lesson 6; students will focus on writing using details.
