Revised School Calendar for 2020-2021

On Tuesday, July 28th, the Roane County School Board met in a special called meeting to discuss the re-opening of school. Please see the revised Roane County Schools Calendar for 2020 - 2021

Remote or In-school Form due 10/20/2020

We want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked very hard to best serve our students and families through providing the options of remote learning, learning in person, and the flexibility to move from one format to the other as requested. We realized we needed to gauge the impact COVID-19 would have on student learning and at this time, we feel we have a much better understanding of what works best for most of our students and families.

We feel strongly that we serve our students and families most effectively with in person learning and we hope most all of you will agree that students learn best in classes alongside peers and teachers. While remote learning is a necessity for some and we certainly understand that, it cannot replace the whole child experiences students receive while attending in person. Intellectual, social/emotional, physical and mental health benefits are enhanced when students attend school in person.

We are asking our families to consider sending children back to school in person for the 2nd Nine Weeks. We will continue to offer remote learning for those families that have successfully completed the 1st Nine Weeks remotely; however, we will(I not offer the option of switching platforms from remote to in person or vice-versa. We will continue contact tracing and working with the local health department to ensure folks quarantine as needed. If a student is required to quarantine, remote learning will be provided.

Please choose your requested platform for student learning for the 2nd Nine Weeks (beginning 10/27/20) and return this form, that is attached, to the school by 10/20/20. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the principal of the school your child/children attend.

Sincerely,
LaDonna McFall, Ed.D. Director of Schools Roane County, TN
