Band |
|||
|
The Cherokee Middle School
Band is made up of approximately 160 students. Band is a class that is
open to every student beginning in the 6th grade. At the end of 8th
grade, students have the opportunity to become a member of the RCHS Band
Program. The following information was written by Miss Robin Duff, a
former 8th grade Band student as a description of our instrumental music
program: The Cherokee Middle School band can be described in many ways. Though we do play our instruments, practice for our concerts, and learn new things about the musical world, we do more than blow through our hunks of metal. We also learn responsibility and respect. Most of us came into this band program thinking it would be a cake walk. We were thinking we could come in here, grab an instrument, make some noise and then leave. We had no idea how hard it is to make those sounds sound good. And we found out about the evil practice reports. Ninety minutes a week. Ugh! I won’t lie though, music is the main thing we do. Our Christmas and spring concerts are an annual thing for us to look forward to. We also have Jr. Clinic, which is an honors band that a handful of us band kids get to go to each year. And we can’t forget about the concert festival. Concert festival is where the 7th and 8th grade bands perform in front of judge and are scored. You either get a one, two, three, four, or five, one being the best, five being the worst. Cherokee has always scored superior scores. Overall Cherokee’s band program is a wonderful experience and I feel sorry for anyone who chooses to miss out on the fun.
